Comments : Michele Mosko Fine Art is pleased to announce the exhibition of  „Interiors and a Swimming Pool,‰ the one-man show of paintings on canvas and paper by New York artist Arturo Guerrero.

Guerrero cites many modernist painters as influencing his work ˆ Morandi, Hodgkin, Picasso among them, but it is clear that his style and technique are unique and completely his own.

Spanish-born Guerrero spent two years as a working architect before devoting himself to creating art full-time and his approach to painting does not differ far from his previous approach to architectural design.  He breaks down the subject matter of each canvas to its basic and fundamental element, often elevating the object to a monumental scale.  This show comprised of over twenty canvas focuses on interiors and the everyday landscapes of Guerrero‚s New York life, including simplistic images of a table, chair or doorway. His subject matter of interiors may be matter-of-fact, but his sensual palette and surface are filled with emotion and brilliant color.

The multi-layered canvas and papers are rich and lush with a palette reflecting Spanish culture, including deep Mediterranean blues, earthy russets, tangerine orange and decadent crimson reds.   His colors are so complex and satisfying that critics struggle with adjectives adequate enough to describe them. With a deft hand, his interiors are transformed into a sensual experience. Guerrero‚s work is recognized internationally and the artist‚s paintings are in numerous corporate and private collections, including the important private collection in Mallorca belonging to the King of Spain.

Guerrero has mastered his own unique painting technique, alternating oil and water-based paints in a way to resist one another so that the resulting artworks have a texture and depth suggesting a relief print.  The modulated surface has a life of its own, integrating subject matter and colors together in unique harmony.

In response to the changing economy and today‚s fragile financial market, Guerrero is adding a group of additional works on paper to this exhibition with prices of individual paintings ranging from $200. We all are touched by the extremes of this economic downturn, but he and the gallery will strive to the best of our ability to keep art and culture alive and in our personal lives.

The exhibition opens on November 7 with an artist reception on Friday, November 14th from 5 to 8 pm. RSVP‚s are requested.
